Angolan Writer Concerned About Few Publications of Children's Literature
Luanda – The Angolan writer Maria Eugénia Neto expressed on Friday concern about the little children literature published in national literary market.
Speaking to Angop, the writer urged society to encourage and inculcate reading habits in children. “You have to read because you learn to write by reading doing drafting and learn new vocabulary’’, she said.
The writer complained that republication of her books “E nas florestas os bichos falaram” and “Trepadeira que queria ver o céu azul” by the Ministry of Environment had difficulties of disclosure.
Maria Eugénia Neto was born in Trás-os-Montes (Portugal) on 8 March 1934 has published books like “E nas florestas os bichos falaram”, (Prize of Honour Cultural Commission of the former German Democratic Republic to UNESCO, 1977-Leipzig).
Other books written by Maria EugĂ©nia Neto are “Foi esperança e certeza (1979)”, “A Formação de uma estrela e outras histĂłrias na terra” (1979), “O vaticĂnio da Kianda na piroga do tempo” (1985), “A Menina Euflores/Planeta da estrela” (1988), “Este Ă© o canto” (1989), “As nossas mĂŁos constroem a liberdade”, “A lenda das asas e da menina mestiça-flor”.

Registration for 2011 Angolan Children Book Award Opened

Luanda – The registration for the literary award dubbed “Jardim do Livro Infantil” (Children’ book garden) will be open until 11 February 2011, disclosed Tuesday the National Institute of Cultural Industries (INIC).
According to a press release made available to ANGOP, the annual prize aims at encouraging the creation of children-youth literature, as well as promoting reading habits and the emergence of new writers in the children’s literature sector.
The contestants are expected to send their books in an envelope signed with their pseudonym, present complete identification, ID photocopy.
The books need to be sent to the address “Jardim do Livro Infantil”, Institute of Cultural Industries, PO Box 1248, Cirilo da Conceição Silva Street No 7, 2nd floor Luanda, reads the document.
The literary award “Jardim do livro Infantil” was created by the National Institute of Cultural Industries to honour the forerunners of Angolan children’s literature.

Writer Presents Children's Book in Luanda
The children’s short story book entitled Palacio Cinzento, Uma PeripĂ©cia em Benguela, by the teacher Carolina Lagutorp was releasd on Thursday in Luanda.According to her, the initiative is a response to the lack of literary production for juveniles and aims also at stimulating the habit of reading among children.The writer Kanguimbo Ananás, who presented the work, said it reflects the historic relation between Angola and Portugal and presents an imaginary and realistic world of the children in these countries.

Angolan Child Book Garden Grows Love of Reading
The Child Book Garden has been taking place at the Independence Square, in Luanda. Children from various primary schools around Luanda are being encouraged to attend the event and develop a love of reading in the process.
For four days, the Book Garden will feature hundreds of children’s books, talks and book signings by authors, children’s book launches and other recreational activities. During the event, the 2010 Child Book Garden Award will be delivered to Maria Celestina Fernandes.

Angolan Writer Fernandes Wins Top Children's Literature Prize
The writer Maria Celestina Fernandes recently won the first prize for literature for children in Angola.
The writer got the prize with her 24-page book entitled As Amigas em Kalandula, and according to the head of the Institute of Cultural Industries, (INIC), AntĂłnio Fonseca, the award is due to its creative value and the accessible language.

Green Book to be Released at Angolan Children's Fair
Contos de Maria JoĂŁo is a collection of children’s stories by the Angolan writer Maria JoĂŁo Francosco Chipalavela. The book is scheduled for release on Sunday and will coincide with the Children’s Fair taking place at the Independence Square, in Luanda.
The book, published by the Culture Ministry and the organising committee of the fair, has three stories, which discuss aspects of nature, earth, animals and plants, as well as a reflection on the reality of Angola.

New Book by Angolan Writer Aims to Stimulate Children's Imagination
The Angolan writer John Bella launched his new children’s book last Sunday in Ndalatando, the northern Kwanza Norte Province of the country. At the event, he said that his latest book, called Magic Song is aimed at stimulating in children the habit and liking for reading and imagination. He also hopes that his book will make a contribution to the academic success of the children who read it.Signing of autographs of the children’s book, the writer explained that the book comprises 30 illustrated pages and includes a story with a lesson, which tells children about the need to respect adults, parents and guardians.
Besides this book, John Bella has eight literary works in the market, mostly designed for children.

Angolan Writer Releases Her New Book For Children
Angolan writer, Kanguimbo Ananaz, released her new book Soba Kangeiya e a Palavra last week in the capital. Copies of the book were also autographed by the author. Soba Kangeiya e a Palavra is a story about the dream of a youth from an inland village.According to the writer, the book intends to show that adolescents and children need more academic orientation and that opinion and decision makers of the Angolan society need to do their job and inspire these youth.
Born on February 3, 1953, in south-western Namibe province, Mara Manuela Cristina Ananaz, nicknamed “Kanguimbo Ananaz”, has been a writer for the last 20 years.
She has published AvĂ´ Sabalo and Seio do Deserto.

Children's Story Book of Angolan Roberto Martin Out in August
The Angolan writer, producer and actor, Roberto Martin, will present his new children’s literary work, a story book entitled O menino de Ouro (The Golden Boy), in August 2010. Martin made the announcement while autographing copies of his latest book entitled Lutarei AtĂ© ao Fim.
Mártin has also filmed a fifteen-minute movie, also to be released this year, inspired by O menino de Ouro. The movie portrays the story in the book: the life of a 10-year old boy from a poor family who dreams of success.
According to the writer the book “O Menino de Ouro” was writen to help and to stimulate children to like reading. “We have a large deficit in books for children that speak about our culture and tell stories about our provinces, this book and others will speak about our reality”, he said.

Angolan Writer Releases Tales to Tell

Benguela — The Angolan writer Dario de Melo on Thursday released his children’s book entitled “Contos para Contar (tales to tell)”, in the southern Benguela province.
The book was published by “Texto Editores” and “Editorial Nzila” editing firms, under the celebrations of the city’s festivities, to be marked next May 17.
The 48-paged book, released at the hall of the provincial radio broadcasting station of Benguela, will serve for parents and educators to motivate their children towards reading and writing habits.
According to the writer, he chose the radio station to release the book because it was through it that he heard the first children’s tales and because he is a child of the province.
At the occasion, the writer Paula Fernandes, who released the book, said that Dario de Melo’s history goes beyond what physicians hear and what mothers have.
The source said that parents need to know how to read in order to transmit these values to their off-springs.
Dario de Melo was born in Benguela province on December 02, 1935. He is writer, journalist and teacher, as well as member of the Angolan Journalists Union and of the Angolan Writers Unio
