Researchers Find Out What’s Next for Children’s African Language Publishing in South Africa
Researchers at the University of Reading, UK, invite members of the public to a presentation on the findings of an exciting two-year study of publishing for children in African languages in South Africa. The presentation takes place on 10 September at Museum Africa, Newtown.
The event is set to take place between 10.30 and 12.30. A light lunch will then be served before the official opening of National Book Week between 14.00 and 15.00, for which those who RSVP will receive a separate invitation.
RSVP to v.k.edwards@reading.ac.uk.
The project team set out with the aim of deepening our understanding of the conditions necessary for African language publishing to thrive in order to strengthen capacity and stimulate demand. Based on an analysis of existing materials and interviews with key figures throughout the book chain, the study identifies issues of concern to publishers, and makes a series of recommendations for useful ways forward. The event will take the form of a workshop, where we present the findings of our study, invite you to draw your own conclusions and to join in the ongoing debate as to where African language publishing goes next.
