Creative Workshops at Stellenbosch University in September
2010 Creative Workshop to take place from 6th-10th September at Stellenbosch University.
The CCIBA Creative Workshop Program will be held from 6 to 10 September 2010 at the Stellenbosch University Department of Visual Arts. Through a programme of affordable short courses in a variety of arts disciplines, it offers the general public access to the infrastructural and teaching resources of the Department of Visual Arts.
In order to ensure high quality instruction, workshops are taught by experienced South African practitioners who are assisted by post-graduate or senior students specializing in the respective disciplines.
The workshops will be divided between technical demonstrations, practical work, consultation with the instructors and their assistants as well as group discussion sessions of completed work. The courses will be variously augmented by presentations by professional artists, visits to rare collections and archives, professional studios or galleries.
Each course will span five days and the course fee includes more than thirty hours of teaching and practical work, artist’s talks, lectures and outings.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
All the courses are introductory, but are also suitable for art practitioners who wish to become acquainted with a new discipline. The workshops will provide both an excellent introduction to those considering the study of art and design and enable working artists the opportunity to refresh or supplement their knowledge with the guidance of experienced practitioners.
At the end of the Spring school, each participant will receive a Certificate of Participation, endorsed by the Department of Visual Arts of Stellenbosch University.
PARTCIPANTS’ EXHIBITION
Participants will have the opportunity to exhibit the work they completed during the week. On the last day of the Spring school, they can invite friends and family to view the fruits of their hard work and taste some locally produced wine at the Visual Arts Department.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Courses are charged at R3000 per participant. Current and previous students of the Visual Arts Department of Stellenbosch University pay R2500 per participant. Materials are not included and vary from course to course. Participant will bring their own materials as set out by the lecturers in their course outlines on this website.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
This is not a practical workshop, but an informal, interactive lecture-based course, in 10 sessions over 5 full days. It is, however, important that you bring your sketch books and preferred drawing material along, because during the workshop the presenter will give the participants time to try out the various points she introduces. Also bring a notepad and pen to make notes.
